CVHS’s 2023 “Make a Difference” charity event was undertaken to protect rainforest and cultural diversity in the Amazon. I was invited to speak at the event and was overwhelmed by the passion and interest of the students and teaching staff. After my talks a school-wide pep rally was held in the gym and the fundraising began. It was the kick-off of a week-long philanthropic effort that included a talent show, dodgeball tournament, food truck night, first period pancake breakfast and a pie-in-the-face for the lucky teacher chosen by the student body. It was five days of fun that raised over $24,000 for a cause of immense importance – protecting the rainforest will help to mitigate climate change and supporting indigenous people safeguard their forests is the most effective way to prevent deforestation.
Castle View High School in Castle Rock, Colorado – three cheers for your outstanding commitment to “make a difference.” Bruce Calhoun, President of Save the Rainforest
