Details for Parents

WELCOME!

We are proud and excited to welcome you into our Save The Rainforest (STR) community! Our community is comprised of over 30 years of STR alumni, a legacy of passionate staff & board, dedicated in-country partners and perhaps most importantly, loving parents & guardians who make our trips-of-a lifetime come true. Parents like you have helped to inspire over 10,000+ student-leaders who have become ecological innovators, forward thinkers, and change-makers. By bringing your family into our STR Community, you are, in turn, making the world a better place.

WE’RE HERE FOR YOU

Making the decision to allow your child to explore unknown parts of the world can be difficult. We understand your concerns. Our parents had questions about health & safety, cost & educational value when they supported us (Andrea and Juliet) in our life-changing Save The Rainforest Adventure in 1992 – and we’re so glad they did! There was an experienced team of professionals, then and ironically, we are part of that experienced team of professionals today!

Any of our dedicated staff is here to ensure that all of your questions are answered. On this site you will find helpful information regarding our programs, admission, safety, and policies, educational value and more. If you can’t find the answers to your questions, or want to learn more about our policies, please contact us to receive our Packet for Parents.

SAFETY

The safety, security, and well-being of our community are of utmost importance to STR. While our in-country partners cannot guarantee a risk-free environment, our in-country team – made up of biologists and naturalists – is incredibly experienced and have rigorous safety protocols in place. Our partners always take best-practice measures, which, over the past 30 years, have proven to reduce risk for our participants. Each site offers safety instruction upon arrival and we have found it to be effective in preparing our students to take responsibility and find success throughout the duration of the trip. We are fully insured, work with well established in-country partners, and are proud of our 30 + year safety record.

COST

Because we are a nonprofit, we have been able to keep our trips affordable and the majority of our trip costs go directly to our hosts and host communities so that they can continue their reforestation, conservation, and education work. Furthermore, our trips are all-inclusive, meaning all meals, housing (sometimes in hotels), and transportation is included. Flights in and out of the county are not included, however. We offer scholarships for students who qualify for assistance. Reservations are refundable minus $75 registration fee, with advance notice.

EDUCATIONAL VALUE

“Save The Rainforest was a seed that eventually grew my entire career.”- Alumni

Our programming is exceptionally high-quality and authentic. We are proud of the partnerships we have developed over the decades, and the community we have created. Not only will your child learn, but the experience will never be forgotten, and will undoubtedly influence their world-view. It is our aim that every student that participates in our trips develops a lifelong interest in climate entrepreneurialism and conservation. We are actively working on post-trip programming to continue to foster engagement and grow your child’s connection to nature and interest in climate solutions.
